Druzy

Druzy is the jeweler’s term for the layer of crystals that form along the surface of a stone. Every gem and mineral that has a crystal structure is capable of forming into druzy. This beautiful material is found all over the world, and is the result of incomplete solidifying of the stone involved. The formation of the crystals produced may be anywhere from very large to very fine formations, or even seem to have ‘bubbles’ of stone underneath the crystal layer.

Lapidary artists carefully cut these beautiful stones to showcase the best crystal structure, and then I carefully showcase their creations in hand forged silver and gold. Druzy pieces are more delicate than smooth cabochons, or sparkling faceted gems because their crystal structure is less protected. For that reason, it is not recommended to wear druzy in rings or bracelets.
